(Since I’ve been writing all the last few posts at the same time weeks after we played this one will be very brief.)
The party leave Dekin to barricade the tunnel under the river leading to their island after they leave to head north to the Abby of the Dreamer, not wanting to stop in on Longbridge Trading Post to buy food, since they had almost none left after the fleeing bandits raided their wagon but trusting that they could gather food on the way north with the skilled hunters in the party.
Two days north of Fort Moya they heard screams of pain from across the river to the east, it being slower and shallower this far north of Fort Moya they crossed the river relatively easily with Aiken running so deftly across the rocks it seemed as if he were walking on water for most of the way. Just past the river at the edge of the Iron Wood Forrest they could see a small trail of smoking rising from the directions of the screams, Corwin and Aiken flanked to the side while the rest moved forward to find numerous decapitated bodies and a man missing his lower half screaming in pain. As they moved up to examine the wounded man they bellowed a challenge to whoever may be waiting in ambush. It was answered.
Several undead ghouls came charging out of the woods and the party set about dispatching them, but only to be flanked by other ghouls that had been hiding ready to cut off their retreat. The battle was surprisingly easy with no party member succumbing to the ghouls paralysing attacks and even the wounded man revealing himself as another ghoul was not enough to overcome our heroes.
After the battle, they noticed that the dead horse next to the bodies was their stolen horse so Aiken tracked what appeared to be humanoids dragging something large, possibly a chest, heading into the woods so he went off exploring by himself. Torvad Hax not trusting him went off tracking after him but despite being competent found the forest confusing almost magically so and kept getting turned around and ending back at the river.
Aiken soon returned saying he had tracked them into the woods to something called “The Darkmoon Fair” and so the party went along to a strange Fae fairground where they eat and drank and played quite a few interesting games. Sadly, Killia and Feanaro failed to stay on the bucking balance beams but bet nothing but the tokens they gained when they arrived.
Garlon and Corwin both went to a mystic tent but Garlon found the seer within to be untrustworthy and left after trading the colour of his hair for an answer he didn’t like. Corwin asked questions about the creature that wiped out his family’s inn and was given answers in exchange for his childhood memories for when he left he found he could no longer picture his families faces or recall them in detail, perhaps a blessing considering the way they died.
Grimbol bet that he could drink his own weight in ale, betting “The taste of Ale” and despite being magically toughened by his allies he was unable to drink his weight in ale (A quick bit of vague math after the fact shows that I was too generous with the DC’s for that challenge but his dice were not his friends) he then came back for a second go and bet his Fear that he could drink his weight in ale… again the dice were not with him and while he DID get a lot of free ale this time he couldn’t actually taste any of it. Still not happy he went to the axe throwing competition and being the raging reckless axe thrower that he was did very well hitting 4/5 of the targets which was extremely impressive and he earnt the choice of rewards and Grimbol walked away with two magical +1 Hand axes.
All throughout there was some shopping for magical items or other items of interest but since nothing was brought I’ll not go into detail now. The party left the Darkmoon fair stepping back into their own realm for it only boarders Tarsonis and found that several days had passed they also remembered that no one had searched for the humanoids carrying a chest, if these were the bandits then what few that survived are now long gone.
(While very fun I think I made a mistake with the Fae Fair because of how each person did an individual task and not everyone wanted to go so some people had little to do for over half the session)
