Born in the city of Farpoint in the Korhol Conclave to Wesley and Sybella de Villiers the young Cain wanted for nothing as his parents were wealthy and respected members of the city elite.
Educated to the highest degree he excelled in music, history and performing which quickly became his passions and people began to talk about sending him to study to be a Bard at one of the best colleges.
Then one day when he was 15, soldiers came and arrested his father for treason and threw Cain and his mother out onto the streets, seizing their home in the name of the crown.
Wesley denied the charges vigorously, but despite there being no real proof, he was found guilty and executed.
Cain used his talent for performing to earn money to aid him and his mother survival as not one of their former friends would have anything to do with them now. However, despite everything, the following winter Sybella became ill and died before the years end leaving Cain with nothing but an old, beaten up lute that shed been able to scrape enough money to buy him as a birthday gift just before she took ill.
With that Cain decided he would leave the Conclave completely and head to the College of Kvothe and learn the finer points of being a Bard, something his mother had wanted him to do before his fathers arrest and after a good audition he was allowed entry.
He enjoyed his education, but his tenure was cut short when the college was visited by a number of minor Drazi nobility who acted as patrons for the college and who had come to see the students perform.
During the day leading up to the performance he had an altercation with the arrogant Baron Andres Ryan which led to Cain to alter his planned piece and instead perform a skit that portrayed the Baron in a less than flattering light.
Cain had to flee the Baron and his men before he could take his head and has been sleeping with one eye open ever since and now finds himself heading to Thundera to try and get lost in the new town and maybe pick up a new tale or two along the way.
