(Part of the following actually happened at the end of the previous session)
Relaxation was had by all at Susan’s Safe house and Sundries as the party enjoyed a wide selection of ales and whisky and wines. The majority of party joined Susan at his table to celebrate the clearing of Drakenhoff Fort and finding the Obsidian Sanctum below, Sur Albert tried to get Susan to talk about the artefacts discovered there but the old dwarf flatly refused to speak about fellow members of the Tarsonis Ten other than to say he never liked or trusted Garak and his companions should never have released him. Angrily changing the subject Susan challenged them to a drinking contest and even Tam the Quaterling joined in, though few could keep pace with Durn and Hurn who decided to play a few hands of cards and despite Hurns quick hands and years of practice Durn came out ahead. Sarin had gone off in search of Lady Elenna Blackhand who was most likely researching upstairs in the library; Tam followed having already drunk far too much for her size and was soon asleep. Amon tried to enter the library but found his way barred by a Dwarf watching out for Elenna, there had been yet another attempt to kidnap her in the few weeks since they had last been here.
Elenna was thrilled to hear that Sarin had a lead on the Keystone, taken from the Obsidian Sanctum by a Halfling named Travis and while they didn’t know where this Halfling had gone they know who sold him the information back in Kracken’s Fall. Lady Elenna asked to travel back to Kracken’s Fall to track down this thief and finally find this Keystone.
The rest of the evening turned into a blur with a lot of drinking done by those in the main hall and a quiet few glasses of wine for Sarin and Elanna, with Tam already passed out. Durn once more tried his charm with the dwarven bar maid and this time was not rejected. The next day with most the party suffering from the ill effects of drink they left to make their way towards Kracken’s Fall and to find out what Trent knew about the thief Travis.
Only a few hours on the road the party almost ran over a group of soldiers on the road, it’s hard to be observant after drinking a heroic amount of Dragon Whisky the night before, Lady Elenna recognised the leader of the soldiers as Sir Marlin Mooney but sadly not before he recognised her. Sir Mooney told the party that he would escort Lady Elenna back to Kracken’s Fall but when she refused to dismiss them things got heated and turned violent with the party outnumbered more than two to one and fighting a trained and well equipped foe it quickly turned into a battle for survival. Somehow everyone managed to make it through alive, it came quite close for some, and their new companion Mandark proved his usefulness in battle by incinerating a few unlucky opponents.
When the dust settled they found out that Sir Mooney was a knight of Baron Montoya a loyal subject of Elenna’s father and never been anything but a rather annoying suitor. But surely Sir Mooney would never lay hands on Elenna without the Baron giving orders to do so, could he be involved in the attempts to kidnap her from Susan’s Safehouse and Sundries? Sur Albert took the ornate armour of the fallen knights with a plan to approach Baron Montoya and say he found them slain in the wilderness, this caused some dissent about the risks involved but overall the party agreed. After burning all the bodies and the surrounding area to cover up any evidence that they had been there the party quickly continued onward to Kracken’s Fall to now not only find out what information they could about Travis the Halfling but also see if they could prove Baron Montoya’s disloyalty.
They made good time as the roads only got better as they approached the great port city of Kracken’s Fall but just over a day away Lady Elenna dropped to her knees screaming in pain, quickly she threw off her gloves and they saw her right hand blacken and change to become more demonic in appearance. “…My father is dead. I am now the eldest living member of my family”. A plan was quickly made to enter Kracken’s Fall quietly and find out what the hell had happened, Hurn used his skills in disguise to prevent the guards from recognising her when they entered the city but it was decided that she would remain outside Kracken’s Fall with Durn and the wagon while the others asked their contacts about the death of Lord Regulus Blackhand, for Elenna was convinced that he had been slain.
As they entered the city gates they were met by Millhouse Manastorm who excitedly claims to have known of their return, though a nearby guard mockingly calls out that he had been waiting every day this week, and now that they are back he has need of their skills. He tells them to meet him at his tower, a new tall but crooked tower rises high into the skyline of Kracken’s Fall, as he has exciting and profitable news for them! Don’t delay!
The mood in the city was less then pleasant with people hurrying about looking worried, Amon choosing not to take notice of the rise in obvious hostility toward him from people in the street due to his Drow heritage, the party decided to split up to save time; Hurn went off by himself to visit a cobbler’s shop “Sole Comfort” and speak to a dwarf named Ragoff who told him that the assassination was emphatically not related to Hurn’s associates but was worth looking into, Sur Albert went straight to The Broken Tooth Bastille to speak to Knight Captain Irrelalis only to find out from Squire Talbert that both Irrelalis and Sir Micheal had sailed from the city to chase down the assassins that had struck down the Duke and over half of his councillors but not to worry for Baron Montoya survived and assumed control so the city is in safe hands. Sarin, Mandark and Tam went to visit Lucien Corvus to see if he had heard anything and to find a good price for the books found at the Obsidian Sanctum. Meanwhile Amon heads to the poorest part of Down Below to seek out Morack of Glass Shadow and his wife Sandy he asks them if they will be willing to let a friend in trouble stay, he doesn’t mention lady Elenna by name, they of course agree to help the Hero of Glass Shadow and are grateful when Amon presents them with several bolts of cloth taken as loot from the Orcs a few weeks ago.
(Should have finished writing this up last week but I’ve been a bad combination of busy and lazy, edited because I forgot a few things)
