Hern Skorn was named after his mother’s father and one of the Tarsonis Ten in the hope that he would embody the noble ideals and heroism of the legendary Kyler Skorn. Life among the travelling bands of Wood Elves always seemed at odds with the strict nature of knightly orders but Hern was still young and he had plenty of time to figure out what he wanted from life.
Hern never joined the Order of the Vengeful Eye as a paladin of justice as his life took a different path, he still ended up dedicating himself to the eradication of evil upon the world by joining up with the Storm Wardens when he saw them defeat a great beast that had crossed over from the Shadowlands. So he joined as one of their wondering protectors who travel the land slaying evil spreading a positive reputation around the land and earning a little coin to aid the training monasteries. Or at least that is lie he would tell you if you asked.
The truth is that after joining the Storm Wardens he was found to have a rare moral flexibility that the monks looked for; an overall moral and good person willing to do darker morally dubious acts for the greater good. So began his training as part of the Storm Strike Assassins, though the Storm Wardens have always denied they have such agents, his life would be much like the wandering Storm Wardens but at times he will be called upon to end the lives of those the Storm Wardens believe are a threat to the safety of all as well as being authorised to use his skills to earn coin for the Storm Wardens any way he can. They did not expect Hern’s main way of generating income for the Storm Wardens to be gambling, which he was rather good at and only rarely needed to cheat, since Hern often found that fools were happy to offer up coin thinking him a foolish Wood Elf ignorant of city ways and he rarely had to kill anyone. Things went relatively easily for Hurn until he joined a game with an extremely wealthy and unbelievably dumb elderly Halfling who kept harping on about his time as an adventurer. After winning a few minor coins and getting a good read on all the players at the table Hurn goaded them to raising the stakes higher and higher betting coin he didn’t have sure that he had a winning hand… he had beaten them all until the old Halfling showed his cards and another player pointed out that he had in fact actually won. Surprised and delighted the Halfling demanded his gold Hern was shocked to find out that this Halfling was none other than Krull The Warrior King one of the few surviving members of the Tarsonis Ten and if Hern didn’t hand over gold that he didn’t have he would lose a limb or three. Cornered and known he was outmatched he was forced to get the Storm Wardens to cover his losses. His patrons were not happy with such an embarrassment and loss of coin and gave Hern a strict alternate “Pay back the 5000gold or else”
