The party’s brief rest turned into camping for the night once it was clear that the Orks from the ruined keep would not give chase. The new morning dawns and plans drawn up, they would still go down into the mines first then work their way up, with little further discussion needed.
Sarin crept forward to the edge of the quarry to see that mining has been abandoned this morning, Orks and Goblins preferring to work at night if forced to work at all, and only two sleeping goblins near the entrance to the mine. With great care and subtle step Sarin crept forward after sending a magical message to her party, she smoothly ended the life of the first goblin when she heard the massive clang of Durn running out of the forest and half jumping and half falling down the slope followed by an equally loud Oleg One Eye and Tam The Quarterling followed by the rest of the party being slightly more circumspect. Sarin quickly dispatches the other Goblin who never even had a chance to wake up while a slightly confused Durn wrestles the corpse of the other and then breaking its neck.
No horns blaze and no cries fill the air so the party decide to venture into the mine but upon spotting the overturned ore cart and seeing the railings going down into the mine the party had no choice but to load Sarin and Tam inside and give it a good hard push… which would have been far more effective had the hand brake not been on, the scream of metal grinding against metal echoed down the mine but still no response from the Orks. Break now released they tried again and soon the cart was moving much faster than even the wood elf Hern could follow, Tam fell off the edge of the ore cart and Sarin shot off into the darkness.
Running past a turning chasing after the ore cart the run through a large cavern which had dead Orks roasting over low fires right to the end of rails where a dazed and winded Sarin had crashed, luckily she fell against the left wall rather than the 100 or more foot mine shaft to her right. Some sort of winched lift and a number of ropes hung in the darkness of the shaft and the sound of smiting could be heard faintly below. Before any decision was made there was a thunderous boom and the whole mine seemed to shake, the party quickly started making their way back to the entrance to see what had caused the noise.
As they ran back through the large cavern with the roasting Orks a small Goblin appeared before them without so much as a puff of smoke and instantly started to beg for its life and to “Parley”. This feeble looking creature had a little bone outfit and a rattling bone staff he praised Sur Albert as the killer of Guttrot and offered a deal, don’t kill any Goblins when fighting the Orks and they will not only fail to successfully attack the party in battle but will also leave this fort and any loot for them. As well as offering them some roasted Ork, they appeared to be the same ones the party had slain the night before and the party took the time to take their heads this time, and some black BOOM POWDER! The Goblin shaman spoke of the Orks being more in number then the party but not by much; sadly he didn’t seem to be able to count very well, also he spoke of the Not Food that worked the forge below.
After agreeing to spare the Goblin, who vanished like the illusion he clearly was, and his tribe if they failed to really attack the party when in battle with the Orks the party decided to go down the mine shaft to see what the Not Food was. Half the party went in the lift, the others tried to climb down though sadly Durn only having one hand fell the last 30 feet but lived to tell the tale. The Not Food turned out to be one of Millhouse Manastorms’ missing golems this one had been captured by the Orks and left alive because of his skills as a smith and making weapons that fire bolts using the strange black powder found within this mine. During the conversation where Amon and other offered to free the creature and help it get its own forge and also build Durn a new Hammer Hand, Tam had snuck off, Hurn her ever watchful shadow noticed and followed quietly down one of the tunnels leading away. They found a troll nest and quickly summoned the party but not before the troll had noticed them and battle commended.
The battle was hard fought and it drew some ghostly sprits which joined in the fight in the end it was killed for the third time, this time after it had been set on fire from Sarin and Hern, by Tam who claimed the head of the beast as her reward. The battered party took a short rest while they sifted through the bones for treasure and Durn roasting his lunch over the still burning body of the troll Sarin noticed that the smoke was going through the a seemingly solid cave wall which turns out to be an illusion leading to a worked stone tunnel.

So the session went well though we were missing some players, we invited someone who just wanted to watch the game to take over Hern's Assassin and that worked out very well so I may do that more often so I don't have to run so many NPC's or have other players run each other. I have fun plans ahead and will soon be starting a second group within the world so I'll have to get them to name their parties at some point.
More to come.
