Brief into text at the start of the campaign. Higgins sat quietly at the edge of the campsite, close enough to the fire to get some heat but still far closer then he would like, watching the strangers happily chat amongst themselves seemingly oblivious to the dangers of the wilds this close to the mountains. Higgins didn’t want to be here, shouldn’t be here, but the Abbot had spoken… well Nolan had spoken as the Abbot hasn’t spoken since he took that vow of silence but he just smiled that creepy knowing smile and nodded which was far worse than any of the lectures that he used to give back when Higgins was just a small boy. That was all there was too it debts must be paid and his father still owed the Abby for two years levy, so it was up to Higgins to make good, Nolan made it sound simple and easy. Guide the strangers north and west toward the village of Blackwater, stay with them and act as witness as they hunt down the thief Son’ka Goldtouch and destroy the demonic tome stolen from the Abby. Higgins shudders at the memory of foolishly asking the Abbot why there was a tome filled with forbidden knowledge at the Abby anyway, his eyes said far more than words ever could, it was not Higgins’ place to question. He didn’t know why these strangers were helping the Abbot, though he had heard talk of gold, maybe they were pilgrims hoping to read the holy texts. Unlikely, well maybe the elf since he was always reading, they looked… dangerous. His father would say people like these didn’t stop trouble so much stir it up in the first place, poking their noses in the ruins of the old Empire, making the sprits angry and the beasts hungry. And here he was without any armour or a blade, not that he knew how to use one but he was sure it would make him feel better. A little safer at least then just sitting in the dark with a bunch of strangers, far too close to the Ironwood for his liking, off to watch them catch a thief and burn a book which is all well and good but what would happen if they ran into a beast from the Shadowlands or a tribe of Goblins or something else equally terrible and more importantly potentially fatal to him. |
